Nathan Rarere

Presenter [Ngāti Rongomaiwahine]

Nathan Rarere was voicing the midnight to dawn shift at Hastings radio station 93FM when he was still at high school. Television fame followed in the 1990s, as one of the presenters on madcap youth show Ice TV. Since then, many of his screen appearances have been in tandem with Oscar Kightley — from a run of TV3 sports shows, to bro'Town (Rarere provided voices for 12 characters), to origins documentary Made in Taiwan. In 2015 Rarere hosted Māori Television's satirical news show Brown Eye. The following year he produced sports show Play, and joined Radio Sport. In 2021 he became a regular morning host on RNZ National.

...I started working in radio halfway through seventh form, so I'd do midnight till dawn. And then I'd go to school and then basically go home and sleep, and then ride into town in my school uniform at 11 o'clock at night into Hastings.
