Former teen gang girl Tarnz talks with brutal honesty about her life in this documentary. After forming her own girl gang in the Napier suburb of Maraenui, she amassed 13 theft convictions and was imprisoned three times. In these excerpts, Tarnz talks about how her crimes escalated after losing her mother and brother in an accident. Narrated by actor Stephanie Tauevihi, the documentary was a finalist at the 2007 Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Festival. Tarnz' Story and another doco, Mob Daughters, followed on from 2003 award-winner Gang Girls. All three documentaries were made by Front of the Box Productions.
Director Makereta Urale says she was impressed by meeting and filming Tarnz. People might not approve of her and her life choices, but there is an extraordinary spirit and strength that comes off her, and there’s vulnerability too.– Promotional material for Gang Girl - Tarnz' Story
