Holidaymakers were a sweet soul band from Wellington that developed out of the Eelman Records scene which had included acts like The Tombolas, The Hulamen and The Rodents. They released their first single, ‘Sweet Lovers’, on Trevor Reekie’s Pagan label in 1988. It spent six weeks at number one, and they went on to clean up at the 1988 NZ Music Awards winning seven awards (including Single of the Year and Most Promising Group). After next single ‘Waiting in the Sunshine’ failed to emulate the success of ‘Sweet Lovers’, the group members went their separate ways.
