Babygirl

Scribe , Music Video – 2008

from the single Rhyme Book (2008)

It is difficult to think of Aotearoa hip hop without thinking of Scribe (aka Malo Luafutu or Jeshua Ioane Luafutu). Debut album The Crusader turned him into a star in New Zealand and Australia in the early 2000s. 'Babygirl', from Scribe's second album Rhyme Book, shows a softer side to the Christchurch-born and raised Samoan rapper. An ode to his daughter, the Oscar Kightley-directed video was shot in Samoa while Scribe was on tour. Rhyme Book reached number four on the Kiwi charts, and features famed conscious rapper Talib Kweli. Scribe was influenced by conscious rap to create a more relatable album.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like this, but having a little girl really softens you up in your heart.
