California Fishing

Although it appeared on Greg Fleming's 2010 album Taken, 'California Fishing' actually dates back to the mid 1990s. The Americana-style track was one of a suite of songs recorded for Fleming's second album, "which for a variety of reasons never saw the light of day". The track was eventually released on indie label LucaDiscs. Prolific director Jonathan King shot this video back in the 1990s and it's a simple set-up; Fleming and his band rock out in a domestic setting (Fleming's then flat in Western Springs) while a moody looking love interest (or perhaps annoyed flatmate) flicks through old photographs.

I always like returning to this record live ... there's lots of meat on those songs, they hold up. Lost people, things taken, beautiful girls, California dreamin', catchy choruses. It was a dark, difficult time and these songs go to that, surviving it was the trick.
