Hero image for Dig that Tex

Mike and Geoff Chunn, Brent Eccles and Greg Clark — aka Citizen Band — stand like gunslingers at high noon as the four power chords introducing 'Dig that Tex' ring out across the Ready to Roll stage. This song was a B-side to Citizen Band's biggest hit, 'Rust in My Car'(written by vocalist Geoff Chunn)Consisting of the Chunn brothers and two ex-members of pioneering Kiwi glam rockers Space Waltz, Citizen Band were enjoying critical and popular success in 1978. But the band split after a career move to Australia in 1980 saw Clark and Mike Chunn quit. 'Dig that Tex' captures the band at their garage rock peak.

Tiny girls writhed from the balcony. Items of clothing were tossed toward the stage, streamers of toilet paper waved. The crowd screamed and screamed and screamed. The foursome that caused it all were sizzling hot — in garb of lime green, shocking pink and vivid yellow. Whatever the exclusive ‘it’ is, they have got it — charisma, skill, vitality, great songs and a combination of coyness and provocativeness that had the audience eating out of their hands.
