In this Heartland episode, Gary McCormick visits Otago's historic gold-mining town Lawrence, just in time for the much-loved, annual Cavalcade event. The multi-day trail, often completed on horse back (or with horse and wagon!), ends with celebrations in the Lawrence township. The Cavalcade has many eclectic activities to offer — a hoedown, a hāngī, a home-brew competition, a beard-growing competition...the list goes on! McCormick also learns about the region's 1860s gold rush and Lawrence's Chinese community, as well as visiting local industries, and even attending a wedding — like a true local.
