In 2000 actor Tess Mitchell and musician Ben Holmes toured a theatre piece about Mitchell's charismatic grandfather: printer Robert 'Bob' Lowry, who published seminal writers of the 1940s and 50s like Frank Sargeson, Denis Glover and RAK Mason. Mitchell sought out surviving family, friends and writers to learn about the long dead relative who left such a potent legacy in her own life. I Am a Dark River mixes interviews and performance pieces to evoke Lowry's restless genius. Mitchell plays many roles, like writer Greville Texidor. In this trailer, Lowry is remembered as a vital and troubled creative force.
