In Bed with Anika Moa

Television (Full Length) – 2010

Made for arts slot Artsville, In Bed With Anika Moa follows on from Justin Pemberton's earlier film about the singer/songwriter, 3 Chords & the Truth (2003). Always a searingly honest personality and performer, Moa navigates a tumultous period after walking away from a major American recording deal. She relocates to Melbourne to promote her third album and combats loneliness, frustration and ambition without the buffer of one on one management. While Australia proves a brutal market to crack career wise, Moa falls in love and comes out as a lesbian, a truth she admits she always struggled with.

..surprisingly mesmerising... In Bed with Anika Moa contains some universal lessons about creativity. Sometimes you can't force it and it is only by letting go — or giving up — that the inspiration will flow. That's what happened with Moa after she gave up her dream of breaking into Australia. One minute she was saying "I can't write any songs, I'm completely useless", the next, music was pouring out of her.
