Mean Mums - First Episode

Television (Full Length Episode) – 2019

Jess (Housebound's Morgana O'Reilly) and her son Ryan (Eddie Waspe) are on a steep learning curve. Ryan has just started at Kate Sheppard Primary (whose motto is "We Can't All Be Leaders"), and it's not just Ryan who wants to make friends. In the first episode of this comedy show, Jess helps run the annual sausage sizzle but her "relaxed" style quickly clashes with fundraising committee boss Heather (Ex Shortland Streeter Anna Julienne) who brings a laser-like focus to all she does. Nominated for Best Comedy Script at the NZ TV Awards, Mean Mums was born as part of Three's Comedy Pilot Week in 2018.

When my kids started school I was like, "these people are lovely but they're also really crazy". I found myself in situations at school [thinking] "I actually don't know what is happening here but I'm going to keep going" and "I want to help but they also look too crazy".
– Mean Mums creator Amanda Alison in a TV Guide interview, 4 July 2019
