No other homegrown comic character nailed the peculiarities of suburban Kiwis like Ginette McDonald's Lynn of Tawa. In this commercial for hardware franchise Mitre 10, Lynn lets her "creative impulses" loose, redesigning her living room into a 'visual symphony' complete with indoor spa, Greek columns and pink flamingos. Lynn is full of praise for her local Mitre 10, especially Brian, the owner. Lynn predates the trend for TV reality DIY shows by a few years. The advert arguably made for a perfect match of character and franchise.

Anyway I nearly embraced Brian — he's the owner, aye —- he's an absolute paragon of a man. At no time did he pour scorn on my creative impulses you know, as Gary is sometimes inclined to do.
