Short Film (Full Length) – 2017
In a motel on the edge of town, two strangers share a nightcap. At first motelier Jane (Sheena Irving) is a wary audience to her wisecracking guest Jack (Greg Smith), but soon a level of intimacy develops. Writer/director Lauren Porteous said the motel's location — alongside a roaring state highway — became "another character" in her film. Motel marked the first time Porteous went behind the camera. It won Best Screenplay at 2017's Show Me Shorts Film Festival. The same year, Porteous became the first female filmmaker to take away Best Director and Best Film at the 48 Hours film contest, for drama Under the Bridge.
