Open House - Shades of Blue

Television (Full Length Episode) – 1986

Teenage troubles dominate this episode of drama Open House. Fifteen-year-old Hemi Mitchell (Turei Reedy) is avoiding his mother Ngahuia (Tungia Baker), and wagging school to hang out at the beach. There he meets the mysterious Lorna (Sylvia Rands) whose tall tales fascinate him, but beneath her 'cool' shades lie surprises and secrets. Community house leader Tony (Frank Whitten) advocates for a group of glue-sniffing teens crashing at a local church, and Jim Mitchell's job search gets a boost from mate Epi (Anzac Wallace, star of Utu). Ginette McDonald (Lynn of Tawa) takes the directing credit.

My mother...she's small aye, she's pretty, and she's tough. If she knew I was down here now she'd kill me, man.
– Hemi (Turei Reedy) describes his mother to Lorna (Sylvia Rands)
