'Part of Me, Part of You' was a single from Everyone Is Here (2004), the second album by Tim and Neil Finn. It topped the New Zealand album charts, and reached the top ten in Australia and the United Kingdom. In the video, the brothers observe joyful scenes of everyday family life — birthday parties, backyard sports and breaking piggy banks — as if they have been implanted into a home video. Directed by music video legend Joe Lonie, the video includes a complex filmmaking technique, whereby footage goes backwards and forwards with no apparent break. Spot the sweet cameo from The Finn Brothers father!
I love a technical challenge. For this one I wanted the image to run forwards and then backwards with no cuts, while remaining in sync. The effect turned out to be more subtle than I though it might, but it was a fun experiment. There’s a lot of champagne flying around at the end. I remember feeling lucky not to have been hit with the dry-cleaning bill.– Director Joe Lonie
