In this Pictorial Parade from 1965, three different regions of New Zealand — and three vastly different activities — are showcased. Firstly, the magazine-style newsreel visits the Canterbury high country, where members of Parliament admire efforts to restore native bush by deer culling. Then in Palmerston North, the fifth World Jersey Conference showcases a fine selection of Jersey cows. Finally, jazz dancing (inspired by the rhythms of the city), takes centre stage. A visit to a high school dance championship transitions into a dramatic performance from Kelston Girls' High School, in true Pictorial Parade style.
Where the ground should be thick with new growth, at present there's nothing but a coating of moss. But with wild animals being reduced to reasonable numbers, the forest floor will produce new shoots to preserve the native bush that is unique to New Zealand.– Narrator
