A year after the first Fat Freddy's Drop album, bandmates Joe Dukie (aka Dallas Tamaira) and DJ Fitchie (aka Chris Faiumu or Mu) teamed up for 'Seconds'. In the accompanying music video Dukie returns to hometown Kaikōura; he catches up with family, before setting off through bush and farmland. Interspersed with early Fat Freddy's Drop tour footage, the video uses animation to make Fitchie's drum machine "super powered". Dukie accomplishes his mission of reaching Fitchie in Wellington. His reward? A can of corned beef (a nod to Fitchie's Samoan heritage), magically created by the drum machine.
The story played on the idea that Mu has this super powered MPC [drum machine]. Around the real life and performance footage is a running thread of Dallas the superhero on a mission to deliver a Zip disk to Fitchie, and then wahoo, the reward is the classic ‘pisupo’, aka corned beef…– Co-director Sarah Hunter
