The Grass is Greener - John Clarke

Television (Full Length Episode) – 1991

In this episode of The Grass is Greener John Clarke talks about his blossoming career as a political satirist, script-writer, performer and newly minted author of "very good" poetry. Australian critics praise Clarke's talents and producer Andrew Knight suggests Clarke's innate curiosity drives his creativity, not money or ambition. Included are excerpts from his long running collaboration with fellow satirist Bryan Dawe, a stripped back political satire that relied on brilliant scripts and Clarke's deadpan performances. Clarke also talks on the set of 1990 independent film Death in Brunswick starring fellow Kiwi Sam Neill.

A lovely fellow called Bryan Dawe and I have developed a suitably ludicrous format in which I look exactly like this and every week pretend to be a different person and he looks exactly as he looks and every week pretends against the weight of accumulating evidence to be interviewing a completely different person.
– John Clarke describes the set-up for Clarke & Dawe on Channel 9's A Current Affair
