Tickled sounds like a comedy, but the documentary traces a path from quirky to the stuff of fear and mystery. TV3 reporter David Farrier was intrigued by a cash offer for athletes to fly to Los Angeles for 'Competitive Endurance Tickling'. As this opening clip shows, his inquiries were met with ample aggression. After heading to LA, Farrier and co-director Dylan Reeve found ticklers scared to go on camera. At the 2016 Sundance Film Festival Tickled won raves and sales; Vogue and The Hollywood Reporter named it one of 2016's ten best documentaries. Follow-up short The Tickle King provided further revelations.
Captivating and jaw-dropping … Farrier’s dry Kiwi humour infuses the proceedings with a relaxed energy that somehow makes the underlying tension all the more effective.– Sheri Linden in a Hollywood Reporter review, 24 January 2016
