Vox Pops - watching John Clarke

Web (Full Length) – 2021

Comedian John Clarke was a major star in New Zealand in the 1970s, thanks to his farmer persona Fred Dagg. Dagg was everywhere — on the telly, on tour, and on a hit album. NZ On Screen took to the streets armed with iconic John Clarke videos — including his Country Calendar spoof and 'The Gumboot Song' — to see if he still resonates. The response: a lot of laughs, as people of all ages reminisced about watching Clarke on TV. Others were introduced to the funny man for the first time. Perhaps the biggest compliment came from the Englishman who said Clarke helped him understand what it means to be a Kiwi.

Watching it now under the current Covid circumstances, I think it’s still relevant.
