Ian Magan helped found pirate station Radio Hauraki, then promoted live concerts and tours. In this Funny As interview conducted before his passing, he talked about taking John Clarke and Billy T James on tour and more — including:
- Meeting John Clarke while working in radio, and the pair's three week comedy tour around New Zealand in 1976, shortly before Clarke moved to Australia
- Having no money on the tour so the group would cook a boil up most nights, and "pinch" lunch from smorgasbords
- How Clarke was hugely popular with Kiwis — "It was like walking up the street with a Hollywood film star"
- Being on tour with Billy T James after his heart transplant — "even though he had been very ill ... and was on about 100 pills a day, his performances were just amazing"
