RNZ Interview: Top Town - Mark Leishman & Ross Mackenzie

Interview – 2022

Top Town first screened on Kiwi television in 1976. The travelling summer game show was styled partly on a British series called It's a Knockout. It was held at sports grounds in local towns, and athletes competed in a series of crazy games, 'til the point of exhaustion — for $9000 in prize money. It ran for 15 summers until 1990 and the original hosts were Sir Howard Morrison and Paddy O'Donnell. Host for the latter part of the 80s, Mark Leishman, and games designer Ross MacKenzie, join Jesse Mulligan in the studio.

This audio interview was recorded for RNZ National's NZ Screen History series, which aired in 2021 as part of Afternoons with Jesse Mulligan. The content is copyright to RNZ, and may not be reproduced from NZ On Screen.
