Whether playing politicians, scumbags or the salt of the earth, Brian Sergent makes an invigorating screen presence. Since his screen debut aged 15 on soap Close to Home, Sergent has had memorable roles in movies The Shirt (as a psychotic junkie) and Eagle vs Shark (as father to Jemaine Clement's character). His gift for accents — and comedy — has been showcased on TV's Skitz, Pulp Comedy and Public Eye, plus Peter Jackson puppet movie Meet the Feebles. On Outrageous Fortune, he played sleazy criminal Eric Grady. Sergent has won multiple awards for his work on stage — including for his 2004 play The Love of Humankind.
By the neatly managed conclusion, Sergent, both as dramatist and actor, had pulled off a remarkable tour de force. He thoroughly deserved his standing ovation. Harry Ricketts, in a Listener review of Sergent’s play The Love of Humankind
