Scottish-born Erik Thomson moved to New Zealand at age seven. In the mid 1990s his acting career took off in Australia. In 2004 he won an AFI Award for movie Somersault. He starred in long-running TV show Packed to the Rafters and Kiwi movie We're Here to Help. Later came Kiwi thriller Coming Home in the Dark, TV hit 800 Words — as a widower who starts over in New Zealand — and celebrity chef satire Aftertaste.
As much as I was born in Scotland, most of my childhood was spent in New Zealand, so it's my spiritual home if nothing else. All my memories of my childhood and my early adult life are in New Zealand. It's just the way it is. Erik Thomson
