British-born Jane Galletly began writing for New Zealand television at a time when female scriptwriters were few and far between. Long drawn to the everyday lives of working people, she devised and wrote award-winning dramas (Moynihan, Pioneer Women), and worked on hours of classic soaps, from Close to Home to EastEnders. Galletly passed away in December 2017.

Biography

The English winter of 1963 was bitterly cold. Jane Galletly, her husband and her son were shipbound for New Zealand, but their bones "didn’t thaw out till halfway". At 35, Galletly was relocating her family, and joining her mother and sister, who had already settled in New Zealand.
