Aucklander Mike Edward began acting in high school musicals, and at 21 made his first appearance on Shortland Street. His character Zac returned to the series in 2012, and became what The NZ Herald called one of the show's "most manipulative creeps” to date. The Unitec acting graduate has made playing the bad guy his specialty. His TV roles have included a vindictive corporate bully in Filthy Rich, marriage-wrecker Adam in Nothing Trivial, and an uncompromising school rugby coach in Head High. Beyond the screen, Edward has acted in stage musicals, and is the co-founder of circus theatre company The Dust Palace.
I’ve been waiting to be attacked with a handbag. Johnny Barker, who played Joey, got hit with one, so I thought it might happen to me too, but not yet. Mike Edward, on playing the villain in Shortland Street, The NZ Woman’s Weekly, February 2013
