Dunedin-born Ryan O'Kane won a Qantas TV Award for a project that began while he was still halfway through drama school: series The Insiders Guide to Love (2005), in which he played a well-meaning ex-criminal. O'Kane went on to play a morally-compromised cop in TV series The Hothouse, and the fiancé in big screen hit Second Hand Wedding. He also starred in TV recreations of the 1981 Springbok tour (Rage) and the Tangiwai disaster. His run of Australian roles includes City Homicide, Home and Away, and co-starring as a Danish prince in romantic comedy Mary: The Making of a Princess.
...The Hothouse is one that Mum can sit down and watch this time, to see her son in a uniform. Except, that I haven’t told her yet about some of the dodgy stuff I end up doing. Ryan O’Kane on The Hothouse, Throng, 2007
