Christchurch-raised Alan Henderson enjoyed a busy career in Aotearoa’s television industry, working across various roles and cities through 30+ years in the business. Starting out in the 1980s as a camera operator at TVNZ's Christchurch studios, he went on to work as a director, a producer at Sky Sports — and as the voice and puppeteer behind childrens television icon Thingee. Henderson died on 15 February 2020.
There was the puppet, but really there was Alan. Alan was Thingee with all of his humour and his beautiful big heart. Everything that was Thingee was really Alan. He was the creator of Thingee in every way he could be. Jason Gunn on Alan Henderson's many contributions to beloved TV identity Thingee, Radio New Zealand website, 15 February 2020
