Daniel Cleary

Actor

Daniel Cleary has worked in many roles in the New Zealand screen industry, but is most prominently an actor and documentary researcher. Cleary studied acting with Aileen O'Sullivan and at Unitec in Auckland, and has appeared in many TV productions based on true events, including Black Hands, Jean, Pirates of the Airwaves, and Until Proven Innocent. Cleary has also featured in  commercials for Weetbix and Rheem, and wrote satirical novel The Cup. Within documentary, he has been a researcher, and co-directed 2003's The Last Post with James Hollings. It chronicled the last days of Wellington newspaper The Evening Post

Acting any role is like finding a side of yourself. Some of the truest performances I believe come from this exploration, and enabling the self to freely express the character — whether based on a real person, or not. Daniel Cleary
