Since falling in love with acting at Otago University, Edwin Wright has worked extensively onstage and screen. From 2014 to 2018 he played key roles in three high rating TV movies. Two of the characters were cops: Greg Gilpin (Erebus: Operation Overdue) and Sergeant Williams (In Dark Places). The third was bondage enthusiast Peter Plumley Walker (Mistress Mercy). Wright has been nominated for two NZ Film awards; for 2011 ensemble feature Matariki, and for his role as a henchman in Canadian/Kiwi fantasy Turbo Kid. His other roles include award-winning short Slabbed, Jane Campion's Top of the Lake and statesman Cassius Dio in Roman Empire.
It is no exaggeration to say that place changed my life ... I feel very grateful because the people there, and that establishment, allowed me to find a thing I really, really loved doing. Actor Edwin Wright on discovering acting at Otago University in the 1990s, The Otago Daily Times, 18 March 2016
