Finlay Macdonald is arguably best known as a writer and editor, but has also brought his literary and journalistic talents to the screen. Following in the footsteps of his father, journalist Ian Macdonald, Finlay began his professional life in print journalism in the 1990s. His public profile grew during his time as editor of The Listener (1997 - 2004), and he went on to host interview series Talk Talk and feature on literary shows The Good Word and The Book Show. Behind the camera, Macdonald has also written for Shortland Street and rugby history Games of Our Lives. He lives in Auckland with his wife, broadcaster Carol Hirschfeld.
... a man who's done virtually everything it's possible to do with words. He's been a Listener, he's been a Talk Talker, he's been a talkbacker. As a Commissioning Editor he's been both a yay and nay sayer.... Te Radar introduces Finlay Macdonald, during the 2010 Good Word Debate
