In the 1980s Jane Gilbert worked as a production manager on varied projects, including adventure movie Savage Islands, acclaimed Sylvia Ashton-Warner drama Sylvia and Brit-Kiwi co-production Heart of the High Country. Later that decade she moved into producing, with quirky Fane Flaws short Rodney and Juliet and her most ambitious production. Opera in the Outback captured the lead-up to an outdoor concert in South Australia, featuring Kiri Te Kanawa and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Later she was Executive Director of organisation Film New Zealand, which promoted filming in Aotearoa. Jane Gilbert died in July 2024.
