Raised in Goa, India, Kadambari Raghukumar (aka Kadambari Gladding) moved to New Zealand to study film and television in 2006, and fell in love with the country. Raghukumar had previously done stints as a journalist in India and Hong Kong, but her first job in New Zealand was as a reporter and presenter on Asia Downunder. She went on to co-present TV series Namaste New Zealand, and web series Art Stories in Aotearoa. Beyond the screen, she has worked as a photojournalist capturing protests in Sudan, and produces and hosts Radio New Zealand podcast Voices, which highlights stories of New Zealanders born overseas.
I’m very conscious of the different perspectives that I bring, no matter where I am. It’s a huge part of my work, whether it means me being a woman of colour, an immigrant, a South Asian living in New Zealand…there’s always that difference of perspective that I bring and I’m proud of that. Kadambari Raghukumar on bringing her own perspective to her work, Women's Day, 2 May 2022
