Actor Kayte Ferguson (aka Kayte Godward) showcased her comic skills on shows Spin Doctors, Serial Killers and Diplomatic Immunity. Ferguson — who is part Māori, Tongan, Samoan, Raratongan and Tahitian — made her screen debut in 1993 as a teen reporter on current affairs show InFocus. In 2005 the Toi Whakaari acting graduate starred in Te Rakau, an episode of Māori anthology series Mataku, as a woman who mysteriously gets pregnant. In 2013 she won an award at a festival in Asia for short Morepork; she plays a distressed woman who turns up unexpectedly. Ferguson has also directed a series of suicide prevention commercials.
I guess I'm someone who has always been interested in the human experience; that's what led me to pursue acting in the first place. I wanted to understand what makes people tick. I also love the creative process of being with other actors, working with the crew to build and inhabit a world. For me, creating a character is like quantum physics, where nothing and everything exists simultaneously, and we get to draw on a plethora of possibilities when playing with other actors.
