Leela Menon worked as a lawyer before taking her talents to the screen industry. After 13 years in commercial law — including entertainment law — she began producing commercials for Flying Fish, then became Head of Production at Matthew Metcalfe's GFC Films. At GFC she has been a producer on various documentaries, including Scott Dixon racing doco Born Racer. In 2020 she was busy on Dawn Raid, a documentary on the Auckland music label of the same name, and nuclear protest doco Mothers of the Revolution. Earlier she produced Moa-nominated short film Shout at the Ground; she also produced and acted in Fritters.
In early 2008, Leela decided to focus on her passion for film and is now using her skills and experience to work as a line producer and producer. The GFC Films website, on Leela Menon's transition to the film industry
