Yugoslavian-born director Martin Sagadin has created music videos for some major names in New Zealand music, including Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding and Tiny Ruins. Co-directed with Harding, the moody and mystifying The Barrel was nominated for Best Video at the 2019 NZ Music Awards; it has had more than three million YouTube views. The Christchurch-based director is no stranger to longer projects; following poetic documentary Oko na Roki (2018), which was shot in Slovenia and New Zealand, they wrote and directed Christchurch-set romance Spring Interlude. Both films premiered at the NZ International Film Festival.
I think if you pull something off perfectly in film, you've failed actually. Because you've missed the point. Because you've missed life. Martin Sagadin on welcoming the unexpected, in a ScreenTalk interview for NZ On Screen
