After studying agriculture and working overseas, Matt Chamberlain decided to take the plunge into the acting world. The CV of this 1992 Toi Whaakari graduate now boasts a whopping 60+ roles on screen, reflecting his love of the "more intimate" mediums of film and television. Since an early role in award-winning short film Stroke, he has acted in many Kiwi productions — including horror comedy Black Sheep, miniseries Fallout, and playing father to aviator Jean Batten in telemovie Jean. Chamberlain has also done two stints on Shortland Street, playing womanising medic John and "dead embarrassing" dad Murray Cooper.
I learned so much on Shortland Street. Just because you get so much time in front of the camera, and it was fun! It was a lot of fun. Matt Chamberlain, in an interview with Radio New Zealand, 23 March 2022
