Ness Patea has done almost everything in New Zealand's screen industry — from camera and editing, to producing and directing, and other roles inbetween. She is most prolific as a production manager, having lent her skills to various shows (Takes a Village), features (How to Meet Girls from a Distance), short films and commercials. Patea has a passion for documentary and Māori projects; her directorial work includes docos Tapu Te Ranga Marae and Aren't Can't Don't. Patea runs production company Useful Media alongside Ruth Korver — the pair are beloved by Kiwi filmmakers for managing the 48Hours filmmaking competition.
...people have a lot of fun. We encourage that too: don't take it too seriously, get together with your friends and have a blast, have a good weekend. A lot of people have quite serious jobs, so it's a chance for them to clock out of that, and just have a good time with their friends — and be creative. Ness Patea on the 48Hours film contest, in an interview with Radio New Zealand, 12 November 2017
