Two-time Oscar nominee Ra Vincent has assembled an extensive production design/set decorating résumé. Vincent has worked on multi-million dollar productions both in New Zealand and overseas, as well as smaller projects (Belief, What We Do in the Shadows). A frequent collaborator of Peter Jackson and Taika Waititi, Vincent began on the Lord of the Rings trilogy as a sculptor, and later production designed Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok (2017). His set decoration work on the first Hobbit film and Jojo Rabbit saw him nominated for two Academy Awards. Vincent was also the recipient of the 2021 Te Aupounami Māori Screen Excellence Award.
It's super important to me to remember what storytelling is about. Making a giant blockbuster like Thor: Ragnarok has just as much significance, for me, as something as beautiful and simple as Wellington Paranormal. It still requires the same amount of dedication to the product, it's just your approach is a little different. Ra Vincent discusses working on both Hollywood and more local productions, Radio New Zealand, 28 March 2021
