Growing up in the township of Pōrangahau, Sarah Hunter first experienced the screen industry whilst holidaying in Wellington with her aunt, broadcaster Judith Fyfe. After starting off in journalism, Hunter ventured into visual storytelling with film, photography and multimedia projects, largely through her studio Transmit, which began in 2003. She often works with Fat Freddy's Drop, directing music videos and concert films for the band, plus documentary Fat Freddy's Drop — Based On A True Story. Her other directorial credits include doco Trinity Roots — Music is Choice, and light and sound installation WWI Remembered.
