Before settling in Auckland, she studied acting at the Wellington Performing Arts Centre, then at New York theatre school the Neighbourhood Playhouse. The multi-talented McCallum created and starred in web series Stand Up Girl — about a sex worker who does stand-up comedy — and co-created lockdown drama INSiDE, which won an International Emmy in 2021. In 2024 she co-created acclaimed TV series Madam starring Rachel Griffiths, also about sex work. McCallum has written for TV shows Head High, Westside, Creamerie and My Life is Murder.
