Classically-trained pianist Jan Preston toured and performed with provocateurs Red Mole, before finding mainstream pop success in the early 1980s with Coup D'Etat. Her next move was to Australia, where she founded post-punk outfit The Tribe. They released single 'Angel of the Junkheap' in 1984, a neat slice of 80s pop with simple imagery and a hooky chorus. Preston dominates the video. She struts it out at the tip ( or "junk heap"), a sultry pop goddess, a cool cat who can "see in the dark" ( helped along by her light up aviator shades). The video is directed by Preston's sister Gaylene.
...my salvation, my sanity, my passion and release. I love performing and I know when people come to my shows it brightens them up and gives them something.– Musician Jan Preston on her lifelong passion for singing and performing, AudioCulture, 24 November 2015
