After concocting all manner of outlandish images on 8mm film, Bad Taste was director Peter Jackson’s breakthrough; four years in the making, it was the first movie to make it from his Pukerua Bay backyard into cinemas. An all-male cast of Alien Investigation and Detection Service agents run amok with guns, rockets and misguided enthusiasm, as they face off against Lord Crumb and his alien gang, who want to turn earthlings into hamburgers. Jackson took two acting roles in this blood-soaked cult sensation. Producer Tony Hiles helped Jackson and his friends get the film over the finishing line. He writes about it here.
