The quintessential Kiwi couple next door, Bert (Grant Tilly) and Maisy (Alice Fraser) are navigating the challenges of growing old in the suburbs — from downsizing their home, to handing over precious control of Christmas Day planning. This gentle 1980s dramedy explored the nuances and poetry of everyday life, especially that of family and marriage. For writer Robert Lord, it was a long road to the screen. Lord began it as a stage play, and endured both the film and radio versions falling over, before adapting Bert and Maisy into a television show. All but one of the seven episodes was directed by Ginette McDonald, of Lynn of Tawa fame.
