Third time proved to be the charm for Wellington team Noise and Pictures, after they gobbled up top prize at the 2012 48Hours short film contest. It marked director/co-writer/ cinematographer Giles McNeill's first time at the national finals. Brains? gleefully messes with the clichés of zombies lurching, growling and generally not having lots to offer; this time they're not the problem — humans are. Born partly from a desire to showcase the work of makeup artist Hayley Marlow, Brains? went on to play at a number of festivals overseas. More than 800 teams competed in 2012, which marked the 10th anniversary of 48Hours in Aotearoa.
