After years of promoting and producing other people's movies, 48 Hours film contest founder Ant Timpson made his feature directing debut with this dark comic tale. Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) plays a musician who heads to a seaside house in Oregon to meet his father, who he hasn't seen in decades. Only Oregon may not have been a good idea. Come to Daddy won reviews praising its unpredictability, and invites to more than 20 festivals. The Kiwi-Canadian-Irish co-production was shot in Canada; it features Canadian Stephen McHattie (Pontypool, Watchmen), and Kiwi Madeleine Sami as the local coroner.
...a really entertaining time at the movies, a true crowd-pleaser for adventurous audiences that packs a surprising amount of nuance under the hood. The film might be set in America but here’s hoping it’s recognised as the local success story it is.– Flicks reviewer Tony Stamp in a four star review, 19 February 2020
