D-Faction

Born out of the South Auckland club scene of the 1980s, D-Faction's brand of Pacific-infused pop/reggae found mainstream success, initially via newly founded label Southside Records. Formed in 1987, the core group consisted of ex Ardijah members Tony T Nogotautama and Simon Lynch, plus Maryanne Antonvich-Mataio and Dave Telea. In-between a number of standalone singles, D-Faction released two albums — their 1992 self-titled debut and 1997's Take A Little Piece. Alongside their original songs, they were celebrated for their reggae reworkings of American hits, such as 'Down in the Boondocks' and 'First Cut in the Deepest'.
