Designed to provide a "perfect storm" of gore, guitars, girls and comedy, Deathgasm follows two young heavy metallers who accidentally summon up demons. In this excerpt, the duo try out some unusual weapons on two dodgy relatives. Blazing a bloody trail at festivals across the globe, the film was born from the Make My Movie Project: it was one of 400 pitches for a low budget Kiwi horror film. Winning writer/director Jason Lei Howden was inspired by his own metal and movie-mad youth. After debuting at US festival South by Southwest, Deathgasm won keen reviews, and many awards at horror festivals.
I can see why the horror market is bloated with found-footage movies and single location ghost horror. We have heaps of characters, many different locations and some extreme gore. But I’m glad I stuck to my vision.– Writer/director Jason Lei Howden
