In 1993 Kiwi soul sister Emma Paki arrived, seemingly from nowhere, with cryptic classic 'System Virtue'. The song earned the Whakatāne-born singer-songwriter a hat trick (Most Promising Female Vocalist, Best Songwriter and Music Video) at the 1994 NZ Music Awards — plus a live support slot for American singer Sheryl Crow. Paki's award-winning debut album Oxygen of Love (1996) was a long time coming. It went gold within days, and included top five hit 'Greenstone', produced by Neil Finn. Uncomfortable with fame, Paki spent a number of years outside of the music business, before releasing further tracks in 2003 and 2010.
