Everything We Loved

Film (Trailer and Excerpts) – 2014

PG
Parental Guidance

In writer/director Max Currie’s first feature, a magician (Brett Stewart) conjures his greatest illusion — a little boy — after enduring the loss of his son. The trick falls apart when a child abduction hunt closes in. Funded by the NZ Film Commission’s low budget Escalator scheme, Everything We Love was released online the same day it screened at the 2014 NZ International Film Festival. At the NZ Film Awards Sia Trokenheim (Step Dave) was named Best Actress, and the film was nominated for Best Film, Director and Writer. At a festival of Australasian films in France, Stewart was named Best Actor.

I’m fascinated by good people doing bad things. At the start of the film we meet this playful, loving couple — and yet as the story unfolds they do something most parents would find unthinkable.
