The annual Farmer’s Santa Parade is an iconic event in the lead-up to Christmas. Here, New Zealand’s biggest Santa Parade is seen through the eyes of seven-year-old Sally. Crowds pack Auckland’s CBD for the 38th annual parade, to experience the excitement. The behind the scenes preparations include decorating floats, character dress ups, and a helicopter monitoring traffic. When the big day arrives, thousands line the streets as festive floats, marching teams and brass bands wind their way down Queen Street. And Sally eagerly waits for her big moment with the big red man himself — Santa Claus.
Did you know 2100 people are taking part in this, the 38th annual Farmer’s Santa Parade. Twenty-nine brass and pipe bands, 20 marching and cheerleading teams, and 26 glorious floats. And the crowd, it gets bigger and bigger every year, and this year it's estimated to total 125,000 people.– A radio reporter
